Brief description
About the IMK
The Institute for Mediative Communication and Diversity Competence (IMK) emerged from the Mediative Communication Department, which was originally founded at the Freie Universität (FU) Berlin in the Department of Education and Psychology and then, in 2009, became part of the former "International Academy for Innovative Education, Psychology and Economics at the Freie Universität Berlin". At the beginning of 2015, the International Academy (INA gGmbH) broke away from its specific connection to the FU Berlin: with its interdisciplinary and international institutes, it cooperates with the Sigmund Freud Private University (SFU), the FU and other universities, colleges, educational and research institutions and organisations.
areas of work
The IMK is divided into the five work areas "Certificate programme"(mediation, coaching, training, facilitation), "education" (teaching, training and further education), "counselling and support", "research" and "projects and development" organised. The Institute's largest area of work comprises the modular certificate study programme implemented throughout Germany. The IMK is a member of the German Association for Coaching and Training (dvct e. V.). Our mediators and mediation trainers are certified mediators and licenced by the Bundesverband Mediation e. V. (German Mediation Association).
Management
The institute and training management consists of the founder and director of the institute Dr Doris Klappenbach-Lentz (educational scientist, INA shareholder) and the deputy director of the institute Attorney Nicole Berse-Schaks (Lawyer, INA shareholder).

Our work is characterised by a combination of theory and practice.

Mediative communication
Since 2002, the IMK has been working with the training and scientific focus on mediative communication, which was developed on the basis of an extensive study on the effectiveness of mediation training, linked with studies on teaching-learning optimisation and enriched and specialised with subject-specific standards, particularly for the application areas of mediation, coaching and training. The training in mediative communication teaches elements of a professional attitude and methodological 'tools' for dealing with diversity and complexity in an application-orientated way for work as a mediator, coach and trainer. The diversity competence acquired in this way enables a resource-orientated approach to different approaches – in interpersonal relationships and in private and work-related contexts.
We would like to enjoy and develop the results of this work together with you: in training, practice, research and various projects for the implementation of diversity competence.
